Little known facts about the resource war in the Congo:
- Over 5.4 million Congolese have died as a result of the resource war
- Over 250,000 women raped as part of the strategy of war
- The plundering of Congo’s gold, diamond, coltan, cobalt, copper, timber, uranium and manganese is the root cause of the war
Congo’s abundant natural resources has become its curse
Speakers:
- Makeda Crane, friends of the Congo public educator, and editorial assistant, Baltimore Sun newspaper. Makeda was recently in the Congo and will be coming from the United States to share her experience of the visit and insights on the resource war.
- Asad Ismi is a writer on international politics specializing in United States policy towards the Global South and the role of Canadian mining companies there. He is winner of a Project Censored Award for his article "The Ravaging of Africa" which was released in 2007 as a radio documentary series. The highly acclaimed documentary has reached an audience of millions all over the world.
